My family and I are recent newcomers to Federal Way. I have been closely following the politics take shape as each person makes their case for certain redevelopment projects. The Federal Way Mirror for the week of July 10 asked the question “is it right for the proposed development that includes three high-rise towers in downtown Federal Way?”

You know, the ones that will be 45 stories tall and most likely visible from Interstate 5. Other than Jim Ferrell, the three other mayoral candidates think that spending more city money taxing our already strained local government will pay off. It’s ironic that in the next page, there’s an article regarding the struggle that longtime established car dealer Jet Chevrolet is experiencing. The sticking point that I have with everyone who supports the towers is, why won’t you propose an amendment to reinstall Jet Chevrolet’s three 40-foot signs along I-5? I have to take a stand that we need to look at electing someone who should look at the current policies in place, changing those that would help bolster the businesses we already have. This would reinvigorate the local economy. This type of fiscal responsibility will create local jobs and reduce potentially risky behavior being proposed by others.

Instead, it seems this city council is too busy trying to find a way about making useless amendment changes about inattentive driving.

Due to budget deficits, it will probably mean pending layoffs and fewer officers citywide if the current financial crisis isn’t addressed.
