I attended the Federal Way Symphony’s holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 4, and wanted to express that the Symphony performed with their heart on their sleeves.
This concert was a delicious delight as the Symphony’s program played out a magical Christmas card. Music Director Brian Davenport featured not only traditional Christmas music, but also spirited light classics that dazzled the audience with material that is especially important to the holiday season.
The Nutcracker Suite, which featured visuals of accompanying ballet dancers dancing on a big screen, plus Christmas on Broadway arranged by John Higgins, only once again showed that the Federal Way Symphony is in a class all its own. To cap off the afternoon concert to standing ovations and cheers of “bravo” were opera singers tenor Anthony Kalil and soprano Dohee Kim.
The audience left the performance thanking the Symphony as they enjoyed nostalgic Christmas music tinged with emotion. If people are interested in big band music that is snappy and performed with flair, I wholeheartedly encourage them to attend the Swing Band concert featuring trumpeter Vern Sielert at 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at St. Luke’s Church.
