Jo Ann Bernovich chides me (letters, March 28) for not wanting red light cameras.

In fact, she wants to double the number of cameras for the city. She says these cameras will improve safety.

I am not opposed to safety, but I am concerned when The Mirror gleefully tells us that the city collected $170,000 with only two cameras over a period of only three months. There was no mention of how much safety was bought with this money.

Since this is such a “cash cow,” I am concerned that we will soon see many, many more cameras. Have you been to Washington, D.C., lately? There are lots and lots of cameras in the city and surrounding suburbs. They are used at traffic lights and also for catching speeders. I don’t know how many lives have been saved by these cameras, but I do know that people are afraid. Big Brother is watching.

Now that the city fathers of Federal Way have found an easy way to raise a lot of money, my concern is that we will soon see cameras all over town catching speeders along with a camera at every stop sign. Do we really want to live like that?
