There is some extremely unfair misinformation being circulated, in various media forms, about Katrina Asay, current Milton mayor and candidate for state representative from the 30th District.
Asay’s tenure as mayor began seven years ago at a time when the finances of Milton were in a very dark place. She led the council to bring us out of that place. Since that time, every state audit of the city’s books has passed with flying colors. As a result of her tough choices, every annual budget since 2003 has been balanced and a healthy reserve was created. Not to say Milton doesn’t have budget challenges. Almost every city in the state is in the same boat. Asay continues to make tough choices to keep the city functioning and provide needed services to citizens of Milton.
When you make choices, not everyone is going to agree or be happy. However, to claim “Asay has driven the city of Milton into financial distress, been involved in numerous lawsuits and has proved to be too extreme to be our state representative” is a clear misrepresentation. As I pointed out earlier, Asay did not “drive the city into financial distress.” Public officers often attract law suits looking for deep pockets. Asay is no exception. Calling Asay “too extreme” is laughable.
Unfortunately, space here is limited to counteract the misrepresentations being circulated about Katrina Asay. Sometimes, politics just stink. As a Democrat, I’m very distressed to conclude that this stench is coming from the Carol Gregory camp.
