Three more reasons to eat in Federal Way | Business Buzz

East India Grill

Kabul Gill, who in the mid-1990s helped introduce Indian food in a fine dining setting to Greater Seattle, has opened a new restaurant in Federal Way, the East India Grill, with his son Pamma Gill. It is located just off I-5 at 31845 Gateway Center Blvd. S. in the Gateway Center.

Kabul Gill opened the Seattle lower Queen Anne restaurant, Chutney’s, in 1995, the same year it was named top restaurant in Seattle by The Seattle Times restaurant critic. Since then, Gill has owned several Puget Sound area Indian restaurants, which also received published accolades.

Today, at the East India Grill, Gill continues to share his enthusiasm for Indian cuisine, fine dining, customer satisfaction and creative cooking. Some of his favorite recipes are curried mussels, halibut masala and tandoori halibut. Among the desserts he mentioned are mango mousse, mango ice cream and cardamon crème brulee. The cocktail list also reflects his inventiveness with a mango margarita and mango martini. This summer, he even made mango lemonade.

The restaurant’s extensive menu includes appetizers, soups, salads, Indian breads, seafood, lamb, chicken and more than a dozen vegetarian choices. Plus, special tandoor roasted entrees, like saffron lamb medallions and jumbo prawns, and house specialties, like rack of lamb, offer even more choices.

For those who aren’t sure what to order, the East India Grill serves a luncheon buffet Monday through Saturday and a special Sunday champagne (or wine) brunch. Catering is also available. For more information, visit www.eastindiagrillwa.com or call (253) 529-9292.

3 Dog Deli

Home-style, affordable, good-tasting food is the goal, said Lori Oto, cook, owner and manager of 3 Dog Deli, located at 35425 21st Ave. S.W. in Federal Way (near the intersection of 21st Avenue Southwest and Southwest 356th Street).

Oto’s homemade chili, soups and pasta sauces are her own favorite recipes, developed after more than a decade in the restaurant business and years of cooking for her own family. Other menu items include breakfast egg sandwiches on an English muffin, cold and hot sandwiches on a baguette, three kinds of hot dogs and pasta selections: Lasagna, spaghetti and ravioli.

The deli is named after Oto’s three pet dogs. The interior has painted paws on the floor, a framed photo collage of her dogs and some menu items named after them.

Deli hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (253) 838-3370.

Herfy’s Burgers

Jea E. Hong, president and CEO of Herfy’s Food Global Franchises, owns the two local Herfy’s restaurants and 29 others located in Washington. He has been buying and managing Herfy’s restaurants since 1984. Hong said he appreciates his customers’ loyalty.

In addition to hamburgers, French fries, onion rings and a variety of milkshake flavors, Herfy’s also offers salads, seafood and chicken baskets, sandwiches, hot dogs and more.
