Shop Local campaign supports FW business community

A local business campaign has now grown into a go-to site for information on more than 3,000 businesses in Federal Way.

In partnership with the Greater Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, the City of Federal Way launched the campaign on Nov. 25, 2020, to encourage residents to support businesses in the city after a tough year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The online portal, ShopLocalFedWay.com, features pages (and pages and pages) of businesses in the Federal Way area, ranging from barber shops and hair salons to contractors and architects, restaurants and bars to pet services and daycare facilities.

The website provides visitors with a searchable directory to navigate through the thousands of local shops. It also provides businesses with the ability to register their companies and add information about upcoming special events.

“This tool will help sustain the Federal Way economy and help businesses rebuild in an altered economy post-pandemic,” according to the Shop Local page.

A survey administered by the Greater Federal Way Chamber of Commerce found top concerns resulting from the pandemic for many businesses in the city included loss of customers, employee layoff or terminations, a lack of financial recovery and worry over making rent or lease payments, according to the Dec. 2020 snapshot.

In response, Shop Local aims to encourage residents to support your neighbors, opt for local services and make purchases within Federal Way city limits.
