From staff reports:

Elroy “Rocky” Rockwell, a longtime icon in the Federal Way community, died Oct. 22 at age 87.

Rockwell was born May 26, 1923. He began his business adventures in Federal Way after serving three years in the United States Coast Guard. At age 25, Rockwell and his dad started a drive-in restaurant in Federal Way in 1948. In 1959, he opened Secoma Lanes, 34500 Pacific Highway S. He was active in the everyday operations of the bowling alley up until September 2010. His business success earned him a spot in the city’s history book created by the Historical Society of Federal Way. Secoma Lanes will celebrate 51 years of business in December. Rockwell’s daughters Sharon Burnside and Jan Martin, along with son-in-law Mike Martin, are running the business. A celebration of Rockwell’s life is coming soon, Mike Martin said.
