Lumpia World Cuisine turns food truck into restaurant

Federal Way residents Derrick and Eleanor Ellis are expanding their Lumpia World Cuisine food truck to a full-fledged storefront restaurant with a bigger menu.

Building on the success of its popular food truck, Lumpia World Cuisine officially opened a storefront restaurant in Federal Way.

The mom-and-pop business specializes in Filipino-Chamorro-Japanese fusion food, featuring the lumpia combo itself — crisp fried skinny rolls stuffed with savory meats and vegetables, served with steamed rice and dipping sauces. Mix-and-match flavors range from ginger pork, ground steak and lemongrass chicken to banana or sweet potato.

In addition to tofu and veggie options, other menu offerings include chicken adobo, katsu sliders and fresh soba noodles.

Federal Way residents Derrick and Eleanor Ellis started their venture in 2007. Thanks to Twitter updates and Eleanor’s recipes, the roaming food truck has attracted a loyal following.

On Wednesday, the restaurant’s tables were full within minutes of the official opening. Derrick Ellis said the restaurant marks the company’s next step forward.

Lumpia also offers catering services to community and corporate customers, and the food truck will still make the rounds.
