“A little off the sides, please.” “Just a trim, I’m growing out my hair.” “Can you do this style I saw on TikTok?”
Back-to-school season means school pictures and looking your best, and with that comes a new haircut. However, going to a salon or a barbershop can be expensive – fortunately, Federal Way has a shear solution for parents and students.
From noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, at Town Square Park in Federal Way, the Back 2 School Free Haircuts event returns, where students ages 5 to 18 can get their hair cut for free.
“This is a tremendous event and an unbelievable gift for our youth and families in the community from our selfless and talented professional stylists,” said Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell. “As the father of a very shaggy 17-year-old incoming Senior at Decatur High School, I know that parents are relieved to see their kids get a haircut in time for the new school year!”
Just in time for the first day of school on Sept. 3, this even will be from noon to 7 p.m. with around 50 hairstylists and barbers from salons and barbershops throughout the area with the goal of giving out 500 haircuts for Federal Way’s students. Participating salons include Bella Red, Castaway Salon, Lifestyle Academy, Detailed Experience Barber Shop, King’s Den Beauty Academy, Third Dimension Salon in Auburn, Silver City Barber Shop, Central Salon and more.
The Back 2 School Free Haircuts event will have no sign-up requirements, a DJ and other entertainment, along with coffee and ice cream available for purchase and will be located at 31600 Pete von Reichbauer Way South in Federal Way.
