Tom Pierson, CEO of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, was appointed this month by the King County Council to serve as a representative of South King County on a newly formed Regional Transportation Task Force. The 28-member task force will provide a vision for the future of transit in King County.
King County Council member Pete von Reichbauer praised the nomination, citing Pierson’s leadershi in regional transportation issues including the Federal Way “triangle project” where I-5 converges with State Routes 18 and 161.
The King County Council directed the King County Executive to form a task force of regional stakeholders to evaluate the future of Metro Transit. This came in response to a sharp drop in sales tax revenues that support bus service and a projected $213 million revenue shortfall over the next two years.
The task force will look at King Count’s transit system, its role and responsibilities, as part of the regional transportation system and make its recommendations by September 2010.
