The City of Federal Way and T-Mobile West Corporation have signed a new lease agreement for cellular equipment at Lakota Park. The company formerly paid $975 per month with a 4 percent increase per year. Signed in 2004, the lease expired December 2009.
At that time, the city wished for T-mobile to sign a five year, $2,249 per month lease with a 4 percent increase per year, which is more in line with what other cellular companies are paying to lease land, assistant city attorney Amy Jo Pearsall said. T-mobile refused to sign the new agreement and for the eight months has been paying the old lease amount.
The city threatened legal action and T-mobile has agreed to pay the higher lease, as well as back payments on rent owed.
