On June 11, the Korean Women’s Association officially opened 61 new units of senior housing at Senior City in Federal Way. The mixed-use building is located next to the Federal Way Transit Center at 31621 23rd Ave. S. The site offers 61 affordable housing residential rental units, a residential unit for an onsite manager, and office space for social service programming. Seven units are set aside for senior residents with disabilities. Senior City received grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, King County Housing Program, City of Federal Way Community Development Block Grant Program, federal Low Income Tax Credits, State Housing Finance Commission bonds, and an ARRA Energy Efficient Conservation Block Grant. Sound Transit provided a predevelopment grant from its Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Program, and additional funding was provided by foundations. Senior City is Sound Transit’s first residential TOD project.
