A woman was arrested after leading Federal Way police on a lengthy high-speed chase through Federal Way, Kent, Des Moines and SeaTac while she was driving a stolen van on Wednesday morning.

The pursuit began at approximately 4:30 a.m. when a Federal Way police officer was checking for an unrelated suspicious stolen vehicle in the area of 272 Pacific Highway S., said Cathy Schrock, Federal Way police spokesperson.

The officer located an occupied stolen vehicle and the driver pulled into the McDonald’s parking lot at 27200 Pacific Highway S.

But the driver fled in the vehicle and the officer initiated pursuit. Several officers were in place to intervene with spikes strips, but the driver avoided them, Schrock said.

The woman drove recklessly through red lights, stop signs and weaved between vehicles on Interstate 5 at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour, according to police documents. She exited at South 200th Street and headed toward Pacific Highway South, where spikes strips disabled the vehicle at 24th Avenue South and South 216th Street.

The 25-year-old female driver fled on foot and a Kent Police Department K-9 was deployed and contacted the woman.

The woman, who was listed as transient and has outstanding misdemeanor warrants, was booked into SCORE jail.
