Susan Honda challenges Federal Way City Council incumbent

Susan Honda has announced her candidacy for Federal Way City Council position 3.

Honda serves as chairwoman of the Federal Way Arts Commission and Federal Way Diversity Commission. She has served as a member of the Boys and Girls Club board of directors; an adult leader in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; PTA council president; and on school levy organizations.

“Building a vision for downtown, creating jobs and making sure that we build a sustainable long-term budget are major concerns among Federal Way citizens,” said Honda in a news release dated April 18. According to the news release, Honda will work to ensure residents are being heard when it comes to downtown development. She wants to help Federal Way become a destination to enjoy events that promote the arts and diversity, according to the release. City council position 3 is currently held by Mike Park, who was appointed to the position in 1995. On March 17, Park told The Mirror he would announce his intentions in April, and that he was leaning toward running again. Park has been re-elected in 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007. In 2010, Park was a candidate for Federal Way’s first elected mayor and finished fourth in the August primary with 17.8 percent of the vote.

Roger Flygare is also running for city council position 3. Flygare is known in Washington legal circles from his 30-plus years as a court reporter and owns two small businesses in Federal Way. To learn more, email jona@flygare.com.
