Suspect arrested over stabbing
The 19-year-old suspect in a stabbing at the Federal Way Transit Center was arrested Thursday in the same location as the offense took place.
King County Metro Transit Deputies spotted the man wearing the same clothing and carrying the same backpack, just as he was when he and another Metro Transit bus passenger had a confrontation that led to the stabbing at a 4:49 a.m. Sept. 30.
The men began quarreling on the bus, but exited when the driver stopped to break up the fight. The victim was then stabbed several times. The suspect fled the scene following the activity.
He was found with a concealed knife upon his arrest, Federal Way Police Cmdr. Stan McCall said. He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault in the first degree. The man was not cooperative with Metro police and has a history of assaults and active warrants, McCall said.
The suspect, who does not have a current address, is not being named because he has not been charged with a crime. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center, treated for his injuries and was expected to recover immediately following the incident.
Man dies in car crash
A 22-year-old Auburn man died about 4 a.m. Tuesday when the 1990 Nissan Stanza he was riding in left the road and struck a tree in unincorporated King County south of Highway 18 and west of the Supermall.
The male driver fled on foot and was not found.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the dead man was the only passenger in the car then southbound on 46th Ave S. when it went through the stop sign at a “T” intersection at Southwest 352nd and struck a tree. The man died at the scene. His name has not yet been released. The incident is under investigation.
St. Francis Hospital gets new CEO
St. Francis Hospital recently hired a new chief operating officer, Tony McLean.
McLean most recently served as vice president of operations for Virginia Mason Health System in Seattle. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University and a Master of Health Administration degree from The Ohio State University.
Preschool openings
The Federal Way School District has openings in several special needs preschool programs for peer models. A peer model is a typically-developing preschool student between 3 to 5 years old.
Preschool is Monday through Thursday for two hours and 45 minutes each session. Tuition is $190 a month and there is a $25 registration fee.

Free PSAT testing
All ninth and 10th grade students in the Federal Way School District are invited to take the PSAT at the district’s expense on Oct. 15 at all high schools. Testing at Public Academy is scheduled for Oct. 18.
The district began paying for students to take the PSAT in 2006 in order to help students be aware and take seriously the level of skills needed to get into college. The PSAT helps students prepare for the SAT. To learn more, call Diane Turner at (253) 945-2266.
