The Todd Beamer gymnastics team was solid during Saturday’s West Central District championship at Auburn Mountainview High School. The Titans finished with 166.750 points Saturday to finish in fifth place overall.
But the finish wasn’t good enough to advance the Beamer team into next weekend’s Class 4A State Gymnastics Championships. Only the top-two finishers at the district meet advanced: Puyallup and Kentlake. The Vikings finished with 173.125 points and Kentlake had 170.550. Tahoma finished in third place and Emerald Ridge was fourth.
Beamer sophomore Cassie Peterson will be competing in three events at the state championships, which will take place Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall, after impressive performances at the district meet. Peterson, who finished in 10th place overall in the all-around competition with 34.55 points, will participate on the uneven bars, the balance beam and floor exercise. Peterson carded an 8.2 on the bars, a 9.25 on the bars and a 9.325 on the floor exercise.
Peterson will be joined at the state meet by teammates Jessica Freeborn and Leah Freeborn.
Jessica Freeborn qualified for the Tacoma Dome on the balance beam, with an impressive score of 9.1, and on the floor exercise with a 9.325. Leah Freeborn qualified for state with a 8.7 on the balance beam.
