The Beamer girls basketball team continued their torrid early-season with another blowout victory. The unbeaten Titans beat Curtis Thursday night in University Place, 67-38, in a South Puget Sound League South Division contest.
The Titans (5-0 overall, 4-0 SPSL South) outscored Curtis in the second half, 40-14, and were led by a pair of freshmen. Quinessa Caylao-Do tallied a career-high 22 points and Bria Rice chipped in 15 to lead Beamer.
Federal Way — The Eagles fell from the unbeaten ranks Thursday, thanks to a 45-32 loss to Bethel.
Federal Way (6-1 overall, 4-1 SPSL South) got 24 points from Raven Benton, but the Eagles’ next highest scorer only had two points. Benton is averaging a eye-popping 28.6 points in Federal Way’s first seven games.
Jefferson — The Raiders (1-5 overall, 1-3 SPSL North) picked up their first win of the season Thursday, 68-44, over Kent-Meridian. Jada Piper poured in 25 points to lead TJ.
Boys basketball
The Todd Beamer Titans dropped out of first place in the SPSL South Division with a 63-46 loss to Curtis Thursday night.
The Vikings (3-1) dominated the second half, outscoring the Titans, 44-24, after Beamer (5-1 overall, 3-1 SPSL South) led by three points at halftime. The Titans got 17 points from Bogdon Blivenyuk and eight points each from Trey Burch-Manning and Forest Grant.
Beamer couldn’t stop Curtis’ Isom Brown, who finished with 29 points.
Federal Way — The second-ranked Eagles (5-0 SPSL South) is now the lone unbeaten team in the SPSL South after blowing out Bethel Thursday night, 100-46.
Federal Way had six players in double figures, led by the 18 points of Brayon Blake. Lorenzo Robinson finished with 17, D’Londo Tucker and DeeShawn Tucker had 13 each, Malik Montoya had 11 and Adrian Davis chipped in 10.
The Eagles outscored the Braves 31-11 in the fourth quarter.
Jefferson — The Raiders (4-1 overall, 3-1 SPSL North) continued their early-season quest to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 1985 with an impressive overtime victory on the road over Kent-Meridian Thursday, 79-70.
The Raiders looked to be in total control of the game, leading 61-52 entering the fourth quarter. But the Royals (2-2 SPSL North) outscored TJ, 11-2, in the final period to force overtime.
The overtime, however, was all TJ, who had five players finish in double figures. Deonte Anderson led the way with 20 points, Daryon James finished with 16, Daniel Park had 14, Josh Duckworth had 13 and Hunter Henry chipped in 10 points for the Raiders.
