SPORTS BRIEFS: Boys and Girls Club, referee association registering

The Federal Way Boys and Girls Club is currently enrolling youth for the 2012 coed Spring Baseball League.

• The Federal Way Boys and Girls Club is currently enrolling youth for the 2012 coed Spring Baseball League. The deadline for registration is April 22. Late registration will be accepted on a space-available basis and is an additional $5. Registration can be done online at fw-bgc.org or in person at the Club, 30815 8th Ave. S.

Coed Spring Baseball is a program for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through seventh. First and second grade will be a coed coach-pitch league. Third and fourth will be a coed half-game coach-pitch, half-game kid-pitch. Fifth through seventh is a coed kid pitch league.

Teams are formed from local elementary and middle schools, area and grade. The season runs from May 9-June 22. Games are played in the surrounding Federal Way area school ball fields Monday-Friday. The Club is also offering a Kindergarten Clinic for 4 through 6 year olds held on Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. The Clinic runs from May 12-June 16.

The program costs $60 for 1st-7th grade/$55 for the Kindergarten clinic (plus $36 Club membership fee). For more information, contact Dolan Holt, athletic director, at (253) 681-6514 or email dholt@positiveplace.org.

Teams are formed by local school and/or area. The divisions are divided into boys and girls leagues. Boys consists of fourth and fifth grades, sixth/seventh and eighth/ninth. Girls consists of fourth/fifth and sixth/seventh. The season runs from May 7-June 22. Games are played at the Boys and Girls Club and EX3. This is a games-only league. Volunteer coaches can get practice time at local schools

• The Federal Way Soccer Referees Association is looking for adults to participate in an entry-level soccer referee clinic. The clinic will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Saghalie Middle School Library on April 30-May 2. The cost is $70 and you can signup at wasrc.org.
