Decatur’s Amanda Beyke came up two strokes short Wednesday at snagging a Class 3A State Girls Golf Championship, finishing in third place.

The Gator junior steamrolled the Liberty Lake Golf Course during her second round of play by firing the low total of the day with a 71. But Beyke’s first-day round of 76 left her in a hole compared to the two players who finished ahead of her in the standings.

Beyke was again beaten by Peninsula’s Rachel Lewis, who won the 3A state title by one stroke over Mount Spokane’s Sierra Bezdicek. Lewis followed her opening-round 71 with a 74 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 145. Bezdicek shot a 74 and 72 for a 146 total.

Lewis outdistanced Beyke at the South Puget Sound League 3A Tournament in the fall at the Gold Mountain Golf Course. As a sophomore, Beyke finished in sixth place at last year’s Class 4A State Girls Golf Tournament.

Thomas Jefferson’s Alexus Song finished an impressive seventh place at the Class 4A State Girls Golf Tournament. Song, a sophomore, fired a two-day total of 150 at the Downriver Golf Course in Spokane Tuesday and Wednesday.

Song, playing in her second state tournament, shot an opening-round 80 Tuesday and sat in 16th place overall entering the second day of competition.

But Song came back Wednesday morning in very impressive fashion, shooting the second-best round of the day with a 1-over par 73. The only player to go lower was eventual champion, Erynne Lee from Central Kitsap. Lee, who won the Class 4A girls title by eight strokes, shot a second-round 66.

Song won the South Puget Sound League title in the fall and also won the 2010 Pacific Northwest Junior PGA Championship last summer, qualifying her for the Junior PGA Championship in Indiana.

Song’s seventh-place finish, coupled Sarah Yu’s performance, helped the Raiders finish ninth in the team standings. Bellarmine Prep won the team title with 127 points.

Yu finished with a two-day total of 174, after firing an opening-round 85 Tuesday followed by an 89 on Wednesday.

Federal Way’s Emily Victor ended up 34th. Victor shot a first-round 85 and followed with an 88 on Wednesday. It was Victor’s second appearance at the state tournament. Last year she failed to make the cut, placing 60th.

Victor is the first girl from Federal Way to play in two state tournaments and the only one since 1995 to make the cut.

The lone boy to play in the state golf tournament, Jefferson’s A.J. Seo, failed to make the cut after the first day. Seo fired an opening-round 87 at The Creek at Qualchan on Tuesday.
