The second-ranked Decatur Gators dropped their first game of the season Monday to the Peninsula Seahawks in a shootout, 4-3.
After playing to a 3-3 tie through regulation, the Seahawks outshot the Gators (7-1-0) in the penalty-kick shootout, 3-2, to get the victory. Decatur got a pair of goals from Michael Klavuhn and a single goal from Spencer Smith. All three Peninsula goals came from George Rower.
The Gators bounced back Wednesday with an easy 9-1 win over Lakes. Weatherly netted a hat trick and Klavuhn added two more goals for Decatur. The Gators’ other goals came from Spencer Smith, Bernardo Figueroa, Alex Dedaj, Kaden Lusink and David Evans.
The two goals by Klavuhn give him 14 in the Gators’ eight games this season. Smith is second on the team with six goals.
Federal Way — The Eagles (6-1-1) got by the Puyallup Vikings, 4-0, in SPSL South action Monday and beat Rogers Wednesday, 2-0.
Against Puyallup, Federal Way’s goals came from Sean Rigney, Garrett Brewer, Colin Kim and Javier Dieguez. Ben Willis picked up the shutout in net.
Rigney and Alex Lewis scored the goals against Rogers and Willis tallied another shutout.
Jefferson — The Raiders (6-1-1) lost an offensive shootout to Tahoma Monday, 4-3. Jefferson raced out to a 3-1 lead on goals from Louis Alvaro Osornio and a pair from Brandon Madsen. But the Bears tallied three second-half goals to earn the victory, including the game-winner by Jordan Drowning in the 75th minute.
The Raiders got past Kentlake Wednesday, 2-0, on goals from Jacob Thoreson and Madsen.
Beamer — The Titans (3-4-1) got a pair of goals from Udenze Okoli to beat Spanaway Lake Wednesday in SPSL South action. Aaron Nordman netted the other goal for the Titans and Deshar House got the shutout in net.
BASEBALL
Beamer — The Titans (6-3) beat the Bethel Braves Monday, 11-4, ending a two-game losing streak. After Bethel took an early 4-2 lead, the Titans tallied the final nine runs in the game.
Richie Apigo finished 2 for 3 and Trenton Kaufman finished 1 for 1 with two RBIs for Beamer.
Jefferson — Things didn’t look good for the Raiders Wednesday. Jefferson trailed 8-1 entering the fifth inning before exploding for eight-straight runs to beat Auburn, 9-8.
The Raiders (4-2) got a big day from Nico DelaCruz, who finished 2 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs. Thomas Byrne was 2 for 3 with three runs and a stolen base. Steven Sonnenfeld got the win on the mound, throwing all seven innings and allowing only five hits.
Jefferson allowed 11 runs in the final three innings Monday and lost to the Mount Rainier Rams, 11-7, in SPSL North action. Jefferson took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Sonnenfeld was 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs and Mark Fitzgerald finished 2 for 2 for the Raiders, who had 11 hits on the day.
Federal Way — The Eagles (4-4) were beaten up by the top-ranked Puyallup Vikings Monday, 11-1, in five innings. Federal Way had only one hit and committed four errors. Puyallup finished with 13 hits and Lee Larson had six RBIs for the Vikings.
Tuesday, Emerald Ridge beat the Eagles, 3-1. Federal Way only had three hits against the Jags.
Decatur — The Gators were beaten by Bonney Lake Wednesday, 9-5, in Federal Way. The loss dropped Decatur to 1-8 overall.
SOFTBALL
Jefferson — The Raiders (4-2) broke a tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and beat Mount Rainier Monday, 8-5.
Michaela Patton finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a double and Alex Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Rocky Hale picked up the win on the mound for the Raiders.
Beamer — The Titans (5-1) blew away Bethel Monday in five innings, 19-4. Beamer pounded out 18 hits, including three by Halle Colson. Colson finished 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs. Kelsey McDonnell was 1 for 3, scored four runs and had three stolen bases and Emily Scott finished with five stolen bases for the Titans. Madison Rogers got the win on the mound.
