Vote no on fire department’s tax formula | Federal Way letters

With all the ignoring of the public will and raising taxes going on in Olympia, someone has stepped forward to stop it.

In just one example, District 30 state representative candidate Jerry Galland says he will control taxes and has already identified a possible 66 percent tax hike. He is informing people about Proposition 1, which will change the way South King Fire and Rescue calculates our taxes, using some fancy complicated formula called the Service Benefit Charge (SBC).

Since the SBC can be up to 60 percent of the revenue collected, that means, next year, instead of paying $1.50 for $1,000 of assessed value, you could be paying up to $2.50. And, we are stuck with this “revenue stabilizing” method for the next six years without a vote.

In addition to stepping out in front of the pack of usual political contenders as a refreshing and candid Olympia hopeful, thank you, Jerry, for running and making the hard choices. Thank you for watching out for all of us, not just some of us.

I urge a vote for Jerry Galland and, while you have your ballot in hand, a vote against Prop. 1.
