Village Green is seeking donations of decorated Christmas trees and wreaths for an auction that will support the Federal Way Senior Center and its activities.
For the first time, Village Green is hosting the “Festival of Trees,” an auction that began on Nov. 20 and runs through Dec. 10 to support the Federal Way Senior Center. Village Green senior sales director Katie Krause said they’ve received around 25 wreaths and Christmas trees, but they’re still seeking more. Krause said the trees and wreaths need to be artificial and preferably smaller than 4 feet.
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, families can come to Village Green at 35419 1st Ave. S. in Federal Way, take a look at the trees and wreaths, and place bids. The last day to place bids will be on Dec. 10. On that day, Village Green will have an open house featuring hot chocolate, and at 4 p.m., there will be a holiday trombone ensemble.
Krause added that if people want to donate a tree, they can call 253-838-3700 or email FWInfo@VillageGreenRetirement.com.
“It’s our first attempt and we’re really excited to give back. So far, the talk around the community surrounding the trees has been very positive, and we’ve had people find us on social media and bring their small kids here for a holiday feel,” Krause said. “It’s been really nice to be open to the public, like that, and show them what we’re all about.”
Krause said the bidding has been going well so far, although some bids start as low as $5, so she encourages people to swing by and check out the trees.
Krause said Village Green wants to support the senior community and help the Federal Way Senior Center become more well-known. Krause said the proceeds will go toward supporting the senior programming, the meals they provide, and the food bank at the senior center.
