Federal Way officer fires shot at vehicle theft suspect

The suspect, a 37-year-old Seattle man, was arrested and booked into jail.

After a stolen vehicle suspect fled from police and produced a firearm, a Federal Way police officer fired at him but missed, according to the Valley Independent Investigative Team.

According to a press release from the team, which launches an investigation whenever there is an officer-involved shooting, at approximately 11:50 p.m. Nov. 9, Federal Way police officers were dispatched to 2535 S. 320th St. to investigate a stolen vehicle. When officers arrived, they located the vehicle and the suspect nearby.

According to the release, after police located the suspect, he subsequently fled from police, resulting in a foot pursuit in which the suspect produced a firearm. A Federal Way officer then shot his service weapon at the suspect, but did not hit him. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody with the assistance of a police K9.

The investigation team reports that the suspect was then treated at the hospital for an unrelated medical issue and booked into the King County Jail. The suspect was identified as a 37-year-old male with a Seattle address.

The case remains open and active, and no further details are available at this time, according to the team.
