Federal Way gas station robbery has possible ties to Tukwila robbery

A gas station in Federal Way was robbed at gunpoint with the suspect leaving behind $3 after emptying the cash register.

At about 4:26 a.m. Oct. 9, at a 76 gas station at 33800 1st Way S., an employee was held at gunpoint by an unidentified suspect brandishing a pistol with an extended magazine, according to a Federal Way Police Department report received through a public records request.

The report did not specify how much cash was taken, but the suspect did leave behind three $1 bills. The suspect is a Hispanic male, whom the victim described as about 25 years old. He was wearing gray sweatpants, black shoes, a black hoodie, a black beanie, and a blue medical mask.

According to the victim, the suspect walked up from outside and knocked on the window so the victim could let him into the store. The victim said that the suspect came inside, asked about energy drinks, placed three $1 bills on the table, then pulled a gun out and pointed it at the victim. The victim said he saw the suspect manipulate the handgun, and then he heard the sound of a racking slide on a gun.

The victim said after the suspect racked the slide, he could tell the gun was real and had real bullets. The victim described the gun as dark black, but could not tell a specific make for the gun.

After racking the slide, the suspect pointed the gun at the victim’s chest and told him to put his hands up, the victim said. He said the suspect then demanded he open the cash register, then walked around the other side of the counter and went to where the victim was standing behind the counter. The victim said the suspect demanded that he look away from him as he opened the cash register.

The victim said the suspect then took the cash, put it in his pocket, told him to open the safe, and asked him to show him where the cameras were located. The victim said he told the suspect he didn’t have a key to the safe and didn’t know where the cameras were.

The victim said the suspect then took him to the cooler and told him to stay there, then fled the scene.

“The victim said that he could recall that the suspect had his index finger on the trigger as he kept the gun pointed at him the entire time he was in the store demanding money. The victim said the suspect told him that if he tried anything he would shoot him,” the report read.

The report said that after the suspect left the store, it’s unclear whether he fled in a vehicle, but cameras showed a white sedan driving erratically and entering I-5 north after the robbery. The report said that the suspect’s description is the same as that of a robbery suspect from a Tukwila robbery that happened shortly after this one.
