The Thomas Jefferson Raiders and the Todd Beamer Titans are ready for the softball postseason to get started.
Both teams dropped their South Puget Sound League regular season finales Thursday. The Raiders lost to Kentwood, 3-2, and the Titans were beaten by Spanaway Lake in a game that didn’t include a hit.
Both teams finished in fourth place in their respective divisions of the SPSL. Jefferson finished 10-6 in the SPSL North and Beamer ended up 9-7 in the SPSL South.
The SPSL Tournament will run Thursday and Friday at the Service Fields in Kent. The tournament will include the top-five placers from the North and South divisions. The 10 teams will be playing for placing into next week’s West Central District Tournament.
Jefferson opens up the SPSL Tournament at 4 p.m. Thursday against Emerald Ridge, who finished third in the South. Beamer also opens at 4 p.m. against Kentridge, the third-place team from the North.
The Raiders aren’t going into the postseason on a high note. The Raiders have lost three games in a row, including Thursday’s loss to Kentwood. Against the Conquerors, TJ got an RBI from Lexi Goranson and Katie Jackson suffered the loss on the mound. The Raiders also lost to Tahoma May 4, 10-8, and were blown out by Kentlake on May 3, 24-7.
The Titans are in a similar boat as TJ. Beamer is also entering the SPSL Tournament on a three-game losing streak and haven’t scored a run since blowing away Graham-Kapowsin, 16-1, on April 27. The Titans were shut out by Rogers, Spanaway Lake and by Holy Names on Friday in a non-league game, 10-0.
Beamer’s offense has only six hits in those three games, including none against Spanaway Lake Thursday. Cara Custer struck out 12 and walked only two for Spanaway Lake. During the same game, Beamer sophomore pitcher Emma Blauser also didn’t allow a hit. A Titan error in the second inning led to both of Spanaway Lake’s runs. Blauser finished with eight strikeouts.
