Edgar D. Sanchez, 21, also known as Sharkie, was charged Feb. 5 with second degree murder and first-degree assault in connection to the Jan. 17 Federal Way shootings at a residence in the 30800 block of 20th Avenue South.

Irving Omar Plascencia, 17, was fatally wounded. His brother, David Martinez, 29, also suffered a gunshot injury during a house party at the location. Plascencia was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime. Martinez was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

Sanchez arrived at the party following an altercation between the brothers and another partygoer; that partygoer fought with the two victims earlier that night and was punched by one of them. He left the party but returned later with three individuals, including his own brother and Sanchez, according to charging documents.

The partygoer’s brother told police he and his friends arrived at the party planning on fighting. The group engaged in a fight with the two victims immediately upon arriving at the party, according to charging papers. Sanchez, also known as Sharkie, allegedly pulled a gun and fired at the brothers, according to charging documents.

Sanchez and others fled after the shooting. On Feb. 2, police obtained a search warrant to enter the location where Sanchez was last residing. A pair of jeans with suspected blood stains, a suitcase and an airline ticket folder with attached baggage claims under the name Edgar D. Sanchez were located, according to charging papers. Sanchez has not been apprehended.

If convicted on both charges, Sanchez will face 154 to 254 months in prison, Prosecuting Attorney’s Office spokesman Dan Donohoe said. Sanchez is charged with first-degree assault, rather than second-degree attempted murder because a first-degree assault charge is a class A felony, while second-degree attempted murder is a class B felony, Donohoe said.
