UPDATE: The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the skeletal remains found Feb. 22 in Federal Way as belonging to Faatoaga Tavita Ufuti. The man was reported missing on March 12, 2012, to the Lakewood Police Department. He was age 43 at the time. Federal Way police seek information related to the disappearance and death of Ufuti. Federal Way police report the discovery of human skeletal remains near the Tacoma border.
Officers located the remains of a body at 10:45 a.m. Friday in the 36000 block of 20th Avenue SW. The remains were found about 300 feet into a heavily wooded area and appeared to have been there for a “significant amount of time,” according to police.
The police department’s Criminal Investigations Section is working on the case. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office and King County Forensic Anthropologist are on the scene.
According to police, a young boy found a human femur while playing in the wooded area Thursday night, and his parents called 911. The rest of the remains were located about 100 feet from where the child found the femur. No cause of death has been determined at this time, and according to police, the remains are possibly from an adult male.
Removal of the skeletal remains started about 1 p.m. Friday, according to police. The scene is not visible from the road. More information will be reported when available.
