Police seek information on homicide at Avana Star Lake Apartments

Federal Way police are seeking information from the public on a homicide reported in late March in the Star Lake area.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at the Avana Star Lake Apartments at about 6:15 p.m. March 31, according to FWPD Commander Kurt Schwan.

Police arrived to find a 27-year-old Black man with life-threatening injuries, and initiated lifesaving efforts until medical personnel could take over. The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Witnesses reported seeing two Black men running from the scene armed with a gun, according to Schwan. Detectives are investigating, and the department has no more information to release at this time, Schwan said.

This is Federal Way’s fourth homicide in 2023 and the tenth homicide reported in the city over the last 12 months, according to the Federal Way Community Crime Map maintained by the department.

Federal Way had eight homicides in 2022, 14 in 2021, seven in 2020 and five in 2019.
