On May 21, Spring Valley Montessori students released Coho salmon into a creek that feeds into the Hylebos as part of the school’s annual Salmon Release. Older students have been raising the salmon in a tank since December. Each student preschool through eighth grade released a salmon into the stream on the school campus, 36605 Pacific Highway S., Federal Way. According to a Puyallup Tribe biologist, 15 percent of the salmon released each year make it back to the area to spawn.
