Federal Way and Thomas Jefferson were the only two schools with gymnasts who placed at the 2023 state tournament at Sammamish High School, which took place Feb. 23-25.
Todd Beamer and Decatur both had representation at the year-end competition but neither school had a top 10 finisher.
Thomas Jefferson’s Rylee Cabang came in fifth place on the bars during the 2A/3A competition with a score of 9.225. Keyanna Surratt also competed on day two as she finished 12th on the balance beam with a score of 8.675.
Joselin Abundis from Federal Way competed in two events on the final day of competition. Abundis placed inside the top 10 on the floor and the vault. On the vault, she scored a 9.400 which tied her for fifth place. Her floor routine scored a 9.225, which landed her in sixth place.
Todd Beamer’s Myla Felizardo competed on the floor and scored a 9.225, finishing 12th overall. Decatur’s two competitors both qualified on the vault for their event. Amya Johnson and Brianna Hartman finished tied for 39th and 46th overall.
