1 woman dies in early morning crash in Federal Way

The area of SW 356th Street and 8th Avenue SW is closed, drivers urged to avoid area.

One woman is dead after a collision near SW 356th Street and 8th Avenue SW in Federal Way early Thursday morning, according to police.

Around 2 a.m. Dec. 15, Federal Way officers responded to a serious two-vehicle collision. On scene, officers and fire personnel found two vehicles with significant damage, according to Cmdr. Kurt Schwan of Federal Way Police. A photo from the scene shows one vehicle flipped and came to rest upside down.

The driver and only occupant in one of the involved vehicles was a woman in her late 40s. She died at the scene, Schwan said. The driver of the other involved vehicle, a man in his mid-30s, was transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious non-life threatening injuries.

The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating. Schwan said the circumstances leading up to the incident are unclear and officials do not know at this time if intoxication was a factor in the collision.

The area of SW 356th Street and 8th Avenue SW is closed as officials investigate. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
