The King County Fair will see its 149th year in July, thanks to a cooperative partnership between the city of Enumclaw and the Tennessee-based Universal Fairs company.
In a May 30 press release, the City of Enumclaw announced that the “oldest fair west of the Mississippi” will continue thanks to cooperation between Enumclaw, Universal Fairs, King County and the Washington State University’s Extension 4-H Youth Development program. The fair will be held July 7-10 at the Enumclaw Expo Center (formerly the King County Fairgrounds).
Enumclaw representative Kristen Damazio said she knew Universal Fairs was the right company, when the president of that company, Mark Lovell, indicated his interest to “keep the American tradition alive.” Per the release, Universal Fairs currently runs six other fairs and festivals across the country.
Although some of the organization has changed, the fair will still run under the moniker of “King County Fair” due to an agreement between Enumclaw and King County. Fair staples such as “carnival rides, midway games, entertainment, 4-H, exhibitors, tractor pulls, lawnmower races (and) delicious foods” will all be available for fairgoers.
