In the 30th Legislative District, Republican Ashli Tagoai will face Democrat Kristine Reeves in one race, with Reeves the likely winner in November. In the other District 30 House race, it will be Republican Casey Jones against incumbent Jamila Taylor. Taylor will be the favorite to win. In the Senate race for District 30, it will be incumbent Democrat Claire Wilson against Republican Linda Kochmar, with Wilson the likely winner. All three of these races will be worth following as the mailboxes are already full of political mailers.

In the 47th Distrit, Republicans are spending big to support Bill Boyce. The 47th District covers Kent, Auburn and Covington. Boyce is running for the Senate and has received two donations totaling $86,000 from the Republican campaign committee and now has raised over $200,000 for his campaign. However, that does not ensure his election in November, even though he should be considered the front-runner. But winning in November will still be a challenge because Boyce will face one of two Democrats — Claudia Kauffman or Satwinder Kaur — who are vying for that second spot onthe November ballot. There is going to be a mandatory machine recount because Kauffman leads Kaur by 65 votes, according to the final King County Elections results released Aug. 16. Kauffman has 8,222 votes (27.26%). Kaur has 8,157 votes (27.05%). There were 47 write-in votes (0.15%) for others besides Boyce, Kauffman and Kaur. Washington state law requires a machine recount when there is a difference of less than 2,000 votes and also less than 0.50% of the total number of votes for both candidates, according to the King County Elections department. The recount will be certified by the King County Canvassing Board on Aug. 31.

Incumbent Democrat Mona Das chose not to run again for her Senate seat in the 47th District after defeating Republican incumbent Joe Fain in 2018.
