Attempted stabbing: At about 5 p.m. near the 2100 block of SW 334th Place, a man attempted to stab his friend with a kitchen knife. The friend was able to defend himself and disarm the man.
July 1
Employee hacked: At about 7:51 p.m. near the 31800 block of Pacific Highway South, a person reported that two former employees hacked his work-email and fraudulently used his business checking account to go on a shopping spree and also attempted to wire themselves money.
July 3
DUI driver: At about 11:35 p.m. near the 5100 block of SW Dash Point Road, a man drove off the roadway into the front yard of an unknown individual. The driver was found to be under the influence and was arrested for DUI.
July 4
Apartment shot: At about 1 a.m. near the 1900 block of SW Campus Drive, an unknown subject shot at a person’s apartment. There were no injuries, but several bullet holes were found inside and outside of the apartment.
Fireworks confrontation: At about 9 p.m. near the 100 block of SW Campus Drive, a man returned home to find a group of boys lighting off fireworks inside the apartment complex in a reckless manner. The man asked the boys to light the fireworks in a safer location after one exploded under his vehicle. The man turned to walk away and was struck in the arm by a BB gun. The man ignored the boys and parked his vehicle farther away. The BB gun was fired again, but the man was not hit.
July 5
DUI driver: At about 12:35 a.m. near the 100 block of South 340th Street, an officer located a vehicle that had been reported for a driver possibly under the influence. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer arrested the driver for DUI.
Homeless mother, son: At about 3:55 p.m. near the 2000 block of South Commons, a woman and her son were living in a vehicle parked at the Commons mall. An officer conducted a welfare check and the woman said her vehicle broke down. The officer contacted several shelters in the area, but none of the locations had beds available. The mobile crisis team responded on scene, but also did not have shelter options available for the mother and son. The crisis team provided oil and gas to the vehicle, and mall security attempted to jump the car’s battery, but all efforts failed to start the engine. Mall security informed the mother and son of the mall’s overnight parking policy. The police entry did not clarify what happened to the mother and son after their interaction with police.
Drive-by shooting: At about 6:40 p.m. near the 2800 block of SW 320th Street, two witnesses reported seeing shots fired from the driver’s side and passenger’s side of a silver Chrysler in the direction of Decatur High School. The suspect vehicle was stopped and the driver was arrested on drive-by shooting charges. Spent cartridges were found at the scene.
