Federal Way Public Schools (FWPS), and more specifically, the Cambridge programs at Federal Way High School and Lakota and Sacajawea Middle Schools, were recently highlighted in the renowned publication “Education Week.”

According to FWPS, the district was the first district on the West Coast to offer the challenging Cambridge Program, and Education Week explored the impact the programs have had on the district.

“It’s really prepared our students for college,” said Chelsea Gallagher, the FWHS Cambridge coordinator in the Education Week article. “You can’t do minimal work. It requires you to think critically.”

According to FWPS, “Cambridge courses emphasize the value of problem solving and a broad and balanced study.” The program encourages students to increase their skills of “independent search and investigation, the use of initiative and creativity, and the application of knowledge and skills.” Students who participate in the Cambridge programs are eligible to work towards an Advanced International Certificate of Education through Cambridge University.
