Federal Way High School senior running back Trenton Pinson and Decatur linebacker Matt Turner were recently named to the East West All-Star Football Game, which will take place at 1 p.m. on June 26 at Everett Memorial Stadium. The game will include graduating seniors from Class 4A and 3A schools.

Pinson will play wide receiver next year at Eastern Washington University. Pinson ran for 1,108 yards and 21 touchdowns during the regular season for the Eagles and was the fastest high school football player in the state of Washington. Last spring, Pinson was the state runner-up in the 100- and 200-meter races and has personal-best times of 10.8 and 21.81.

Pinson averaged 125 yards a game and 7.7 yards a carry during the season and scored 22 total touchdowns.

He finished with six 100-plus yard games during the season and his best game came Oct. 29 against his old team, Jefferson. Pinson ran for 177 on just 12 carries and set an SPSL record with seven touchdowns. Pinson also had 234 yards against Auburn Riverside.

Turner, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker, is a two-time, Federal Way Mirror All-City selection. The Gator senior was Decatur’s best defender and earned first-team, All-SPSL South honors after a stellar senior season. Turner was a second-teamer as a junior.

• The City of Federal Way has proclaimed April 6 “Floyd Little Day” in honor of Little being elected to the 2010 class of the National Football Hall of Fame. Little and his wife, DeBorah, will be recognized at the Federal Way City Council meeting at 7 p.m. on April 6.

The owner of Federal Way’s Pacific Coast Ford, which went out of business in July, will be officially enshrined into the Hall of Fame on Aug. 7, in a ceremony at Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Little, who played his entire career with the Denver Broncos, was joined in the Class of 2010 by all-time greats Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith, along with former Seahawk defensive lineman John Randle, offensive lineman Russ Grimm, linebacker Rickey Jackson and defensive back and coach Dick LeBeau. Little and LeBeau were elected as senior committee nominees.

During his career, Little totaled the most all-purpose yards in pro football and ranked second to only Simpson in rushing yards over that period. Little is one of only three players in NFL history with 6,000 career rushing yards and 3,000 career special-teams return yards. Little led the Broncos in rushing for a club-record seven consecutive seasons, including in 1971 when he captured the NFL’s rushing title with 1,133 yards.

In 117 career games, Little posted 1,643 rushes for 6,323 yards with 43 touchdowns, 215 receptions for 2,418 yards with nine touchdowns, 104 kickoff returns for 2,523 yards, and 81 punt returns for 893 yards with two touchdowns.

Little was also one of the best college running backs of his era while playing at Syracuse. He was a three-time All-American for the Orangemen, following in the footsteps of Jim Brown and the late Ernie Davis as superstar tailbacks at Syracuse.

• A pair of Federal Way High School grads were named to Central Washington University’s women’s soccer all-decade team on Thursday. Midfielders Hannah Bridges and Lindsay Mitchell were two of 18 student-athletes to be named all-decade for the years 2000-2009.

The team, selected by current head coach Michael Farrand, who began his CWU coaching career in 2000, features two goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders, and four forwards.

Bridges played for Central in 2004 and again from 2006-08 and Mitchell played from 2004-07. Both were named all-Great Northwest Conference at least once during their careers.

• The Federal Way Boys and Girls Club is currently enrolling youth for the 2010 coed spring baseball leagues. The deadline for registration is April 23. Late registration will be accepted on a space-available basis and is an additional $5.

The coed spring league is a program for boys and girls in grades K through 7. Grades 1-2 will be a coed, coach-pitch league. Grades 3-4 will be a coed half-game coachpitch, half-game kid pitch. Grades 5-7 is a coed kid-pitch league. Teams are formed from local elementary and middle schools, area, and grade. The season runs from April 26-June 19. Games are played in the surrounding Federal Way area school ball fields.

The Club is also offering a Kindergarten Clinic for 4 through 6 year olds held on Saturdays only from 10-11 a.m. The Clinic runs from May 8-June 12.

The program costs $60 for 1st-7th grade/$55 for the Kindergarten clinic (plus $20 current Club membership fee).

The Club is also forming teams for their spring basketball league. Teams are formed by local school and/or area.

The divisions are divided into boys and girls leagues. The boys league consists of fourth and fifth grades, sixth grade, and seventh and eighth grades. Girls league consists of fourth and fifth grades and sixth and seventh grades.

The season runs from May 5-June 19. Games are played at the Boys and Girls Club and EX3. This is a games-only league. Volunteer coaches can get practice time at local schools.

The program costs $60 for all league (plus $20 current Club membership fee).
