Mother’s Day weekend events in Federal Way

Spring concert, BonsaiFest, farmers market and more.

Celebrate Mother’s Day and the first weekend in May at these events in Federal Way. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8.

Federal Way Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

The Federal Way Farmers Market returns for its spring and summer season. Enjoy farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, bakery goods, flower bouquets, jewelry, arts and crafts, and more. Treat bags are offered for mothers. Opening day ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. Location: The Commons mall south parking lot along South 324th Street.

Federal Way Chorale 2022 Spring Concert: 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

The Federal Way Chorale is performing “Sound Springs Eternal” at the Federal Way Performing Arts & Event Center. The concert features Schubert Mass in G Major, along with other choral and popular favorites. Tickets available at fwpaec.org.

BonsaiFest: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7-8

Delight in hundreds of beautiful bonsai tucked away in the woods at the Pacific Bonsai Museum. The BonsaiFest weekend features live bonsai demonstrations, docent-led tours of the collection, shopping, art stations, food trucks and more. Special exhibitions include “A Gallery of Trees: Living Art of Pacific Bonsai Museum” and a retrospective exhibition with bonsai created by local bonsai master/author and former Pacific Bonsai Museum Curator, David De Groot. Poet Alexandria Manolo is writing custom poems for Mom from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A photobooth is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday only. Free admission, donations suggested. Location: 2515 S. 336th Street.

Federal Way Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 7-8

Located next to the Pacific Bonsai Museum, the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden is home to the largest collection of rhododendron species in the world. The 22-acre woodland garden is in peak bloom for Mother’s Day weekend. Enjoy a wander through the garden and the Rutherford Conservatory, shop at the nursery and enjoy a meal from Stacks Burgers food truck. Admission is $8; credit card only at this time.
