Man attempts to cash fraudulent check: At 10 a.m. on Dec. 13 in the 34500 block of 16th Ave. S., a man was arrested for trying to pass a fraudulent check at Money Center. The check was for $923 and had clear eraser marks. He tried to flee on foot but was found and arrested at the Super 8 Motel. He was booked into SCORE jail on misdemeanor fraud.
Home Depot shoplifter caught: At 3:57 p.m. on Dec. 13 in the 1700 block of S. 352nd St., officers responded to a shoplifter in custody at Home Depot. The investigation revealed the suspect concealed items in a black duffel bag he brought into the store and then left the store without paying.
Girl runs away from home: At 4:36 a.m. on Dec. 12 in the 900 block of SW Campus Drive, a mother called police to report her daughter ran away and was refusing to come home. She left for school at 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 11 but never returned. The mother said she discovered their neighbor texting with her at 10 p.m., Dec. 11 and that she thinks she might be in Renton. Her daughter was last seen wearing a Nikki Minaj sweatsuit.
Police find stolen Uhaul: At 4:10 a.m. on Dec. 12 in the 2400 block of S. Star Lake Road, police found a stolen Uhaul from Arizona. The vehicle was towed. As they searched the vehicle, police found the truck’s bed full of miscellaneous household items. Unable to reach the company, they contacted the person who rented the vehicle and told her the good news.
Pregnant woman threatens to walk into traffic: At 8:23 a.m. on Dec. 12 in the 2400 block of S. 273rd Place, police were called to a residence where expecting parents could be heard fighting. The couple told police they were fighting over relationship issues. The woman is currently four-and-a-half months pregnant and suffers from bipolar disorder but is not taking medication. She’s allegedly tried to injure herself in the past and subsequent to the argument, she alluded to walking into traffic. Police transported her to St. Francis Hospital for voluntary committal.
Woman attempts suicide: At 10:06 a.m. on Dec. 12 in the 1000 block of S. 330th St., a girl was involuntarily committed after she admitted to taking seven Seroquel pills. She had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend and he called police after she told him she wanted to die. Police found her uncooperative and under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Man offers teen girls money, cigarettes: At 11:44 a.m. on Dec. 12 in the 1400 block of S. 303rd St., police warned a man about his inappropriate behavior after two students told police they were approached by the unknown man who offered them money and cigarettes. The two girls were walking home to pick up gym clothes one of them forgot when a man on crutches offered them $5, cigarettes or a lighter. He then asked one of the girls if he could sleep at her house because his power was out. The girls reported the incident to the school resource officer at Federal Way High School. Police found the man and asked for identification, which he produced two different names. When they asked why he had a different name, he replied “I’m bipolar.”
Concerned father reports school fight: At 12:58 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the 1100 block of S. Dash Point Road, a father called to report his son and a classmate had been in a fight at Sacajawea Middle School three days prior. However, police later determined no crime had occurred.
Girl threatens to kill herself: At 1:05 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the 3000 block of S. 288th St., a girl was involuntarily committed after attempting to kill herself with a TV cable. The girl’s mom called police, who found her crying in her room. The police report states she was upset because her mom was going to make her leave if she quit her job. She told her brother that she was going to kill herself and, according to her mother, she has threatened this several times in the past.
Woman raped by man: At 12:58 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the 30600 block of Pacific Highway S., a victim reported she was raped by a male that she met a week ago through a mutual friend. The rape occurred after she invited him to smoke some marijuana.
Man finds wife dead at home: At 3:44 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the 1300 block of SW Campus Drive, a man returned home to find his wife deceased. She had an extensive history of physical and mental health issues. Based on the police investigation, it was determined no suspicious circumstances or foul play was involved.
Impersonator tells man he owes for missing jury duty: At 4:51 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the 2000 block of S. 282nd St., a 71-year-old man told police he received a phone call from a man claiming to be Carl Fletcher from King County Superior Court. The suspect told the man he had missed jury duty and, to avoid a warrant for arrest, he must go to a Safeway store and pay $1,275 in cash before 5 p.m. that day. “Carl” said he would provide further directions once there and he did not have any other payment options.
Girls attempt to steal $1,946 worth of clothing: At 7:27 p.m. on Dec. 12 at 1901 S. Commons, a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl were arrested for stealing a combined total of $1,946 worth of clothing from Macy’s. Mall security witnessed the girls grab purses, clothing and other items from the rack, walk around the mall, meet up with friends and then exit the Macy’s before they were arrested.
