State Sen. Claire Wilson, representing the 30th Legislative District, is seeking re-election to a second term.

Wilson, a former Federal Way School Board member who chairs the Senate Human Services, Reentry & Rehabilitation Committee, made both public schools and the health and safety of kids and families in Washington the focus of her first four years in the legislature.

“I have been honored to represent my neighbors in the State Senate,” Wilson said. “I have focused on investing in our children, uniting our community, and empowering the voice of parents in their children’s schools. That is what I have spent my career doing — helping kids and families get access to education and opportunity.”

Before joining the legislature, Wilson spent 25 years working for the Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD), specializing in early education and family involvement.

In the State Senate, Wilson passed legislation supporting Washington kids including investments in early learning, K-12 and higher education as well as comprehensive sex education.

“We know that early childhood education gives kids the skills to learn and the tools needed to become happy, healthy, and productive adults and parents later in life,” Wilson said. “Especially as we pivot out of the pandemic, it is critical that we hire and train more child-care professionals, and reduce the costs of high-quality care for working and low income families.”

The Fair Start For Kids Act, passed in 2021, invests in childcare programs and facilities, making “huge strides towards making high-quality child care accessible and affordable for every kid in Washington,” Wilson said.

Additional priorities for Wilson include addressing the homelessness, affordable housing and public safety concerns of local communities. She also prioritizes helping kids and families dealing with housing insecurity and gun violence.

“Our communities are feeling the stress of interrelated crises of homelessness, addiction and drug use, and the escalation of property crimes. The investments we are making in stopping crime at the source, in behavioral health, in substance abuse treatment, and in affordable housing are critical to protecting our neighborhoods and supporting young people who are at risk,” Wilson said.

Wilson is endorsed by Attorney General Bob Ferguson, Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti, State Reps. Jesse Johnson and Jamila Taylor, Federal Way Public School Board Members Trudy Davis and Luckisha Phillips, as well as education, conservation, and small business leaders across the district.

Wilson serves on the Advisory Board of the Washington Family Engagement Trust, is an advisor to the Washington State Leadership Board and the WA State LGBTQ Commission, and served in South King County on her local PTA.
