The Auburn Police Department reports that in the early morning hours of Feb. 25, a man tried to force his way into the apartment of an Auburn woman with whom he had just argued and threatened to kill her with a large butcher knife.
On March 1, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged 34-year-old Xzavior Nathaniel Satterwhite of Federal Way with first-degree attempted burglary and felony harassment.
A Superior Court judge set Satterwhite’s bail at $75,000 following the recommendation of Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jennifer L. Phillips.
Phillips told the court at Satterwhite’s bail hearing that a reasonable fear exists that Satterwhite will fail to appear in court and will violently re-offend.
“The state is also concerned about the victim’s safety in this case,” Phillips said. “The defendant clearly knows where the victim lives, and his alleged conduct in this case is very concerning.”
Here is what happened, according to the Auburn Police Department’s affidavit for determination of probable cause.
According to documents, Satterwhite, whom the woman told police she only knew through a mutual acquaintance, was supposed to help her clean the apartment she shares with her four children. But according to documents, at about 10 p.m., the two got into a verbal fight and she told him he needed to leave.
According to documents, Satterwhite did leave, but returned two to three hours later, knocked on the woman’s front window, told her to open the door and chanted, “Come out, come out, wherever you are.”
According to documents, the woman told Satterwhite to leave, but instead, he kicked in her front door. When he took a step inside, according to the document, she saw that he was holding a large butcher knife. According to documents, Satterwhite raised the butcher knife with his right hand and told the woman that she “didn’t deserve to live any longer.” According to documents, at that moment, the woman began pushing her couch toward the door and Satterwhite left.
When the woman had pushed the couch to the door, according to documents, she retreated to her bedroom with her children and called 911, According to documents, the 911 operator could hear Satterwhite saying things to the woman through her bedroom window.
Police later arrested Satterwhite outside of the woman’s home.
According to documents, Satterwhite told police he was “sick of being chastised” by his neighbor — it is unclear from the write-up what neighbor the Federal Way resident was referring to — and that he was in an argument with “an old raggedy ass.”
When police asked Satterwhite if he had had a knife during the argument, according to the write-up, he confirmed he had.
“Of course I had a knife,” he allegedly told police, adding that it had been a switchblade, not a butcher knife. Police searched for, but could not find, a switchblade at the scene, according to documents.
According to court documents, at the time of the incident, Satterwhite was on bench warrant status related to pending misdemeanor charges of harassment, malicious mischief and 4th-degree assault stemming from a Federal Way Police Department arrest on Oct. 13, 2021.
Satterwhite also has a lengthy misdemeanor criminal history in Washington and a felony conviction for violating a domestic violence court order in 2010. According to court records, on Sept. 19, 2021, he was arrested in Oregon for first-degree criminal mischief and interfering with public transportation. It is unclear at this time if those charges have been filed and/or resolved.
