The Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way will be closed through Sept. 6 for “significant maintenance,” according to an announcement by the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks. The closure is effective Aug. 6.

Maintenance work includes draining all three pools to repair the bulkheads, drains, plumbing and liners, painting and other improvements to the locker rooms and dressing areas.

“The major patron improvements will be the locker room expansions,” said spokesman Doug Williams, adding that similar work was performed at the facility about four years ago.

The center is hosting the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving championships in March 2012, along with the U.S. Olympic Diving Team trials in June 2012.
