Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Nov. 19: Violet Tucker

DHS sophomore qualified in four events for the West Central Districts championship meet.

Decatur High School sophomore Violet Tucker, swim and dive, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Nov. 19.

Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?

A: My favorite subject would have to be science. I like to be able to experience the problem and solution, and not have it just given to me.

Q: What other activities/hobbies do you enjoy?

A: I like to paint and ride bikes.

Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?

A: The person who has helped me succeed the most would have to be my grandma because she gives me so much motivation and validation.

Q: The best advice I’ve ever been given by a coach is:

A: The best advice I have been given for swimming is that one person’s success does not define your defeat. Also, that you are your greatest enemy.

Q: Describe your pre-match ritual?

A: My pre-game ritual is visualizing my races and also just hyping me and my teammates up. My favorite post-game meal is definitely a burrito from Qdoba.

Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?

A: My favorite song is between “Stella Brown” by Jelani Aryeh or “Looking Out for You” by Joy Again.

From the sideline: DHS sophomore Violet Tucker qualified for the West Central District Championships in four events. She was part of the team that qualified for the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay that finished 7th in the final heat. As an individual, she finished 9th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 13th place in the 500-yard freestyle. Violet also participates in community club swimming excelling in the distance races. Violet is enrolled in rigorous college prep courses and both enjoying and excelling in science courses. She has volunteered in her community serving meals in her church food kitchen and working with Juvenile Diabetes Association events.
