The Marine Hills Swim Team “is working on another dominant season in the Seattle Summer Swim League,” according to team officials.

The season started on June 26th, when Ma rine Hills hosted Lakeridge. The Lakeridge team came “ready to spoil the three year unbeaten streak,” and looked poised to do so, when they opened up a 30-point lead early on. Marine Hills battled back, retaking the lead with approximately 10 of the 72 events left, eventually holding on to win 360-338.

Team officials noted that Jack Springer broke a 43-year-old record in the 9-10 year old 100-yard individual medley, recording a time of 1:13:07.

The team followed up with wins over Arbor Heights and OlympicView on July 1 and July 8. Against Arbor Heights, the Marine Hills swimmers won 425-310. The meet against OlympicView was for the “Ye Old Tin Cup”, and marked the 51st meet between the two teams.

In that particular competition, OlympicView has the lifetime edge with 30 wins, but Marine Hills extended their 4-year win streak to a fifth year, winning 436-303.

This week, the Fish and Tree swimmers, as they’re known, headed to the Kent Swim and Tennis Club, in a David versus Goliath showdown, with Marine Hills as David and Kent as Goliath, because Kent has a team twice as large as Marine Hills.

The meet had the teams within one point of each other with five freestyle events left to go. The results were still being determined as of Wednesday, with the initial results having Marine Hills as the winner and the second go-round putting Kent as the winner.

Marine Hills has two meets left this summer — in Normandy Park and and with cross-town rivals Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club.
