Firefighter John Moncrief retired from South King Fire and Rescue in 2011 after a nearly 25-year career.
It was time to spend time with his family and enjoy the fruits of his labor. However, a few months later, he was diagnosed with cancer — a presumptive form of cancer related to his years on the job, including exposure to toxic products of combustion. His condition and treatment have required blood transfusions.
On Thursday, July 5, his brother and sister firefighters are holding a blood drive at SKFR headquarters, station 62, 31617 1st Ave. S., to help replenish the supply that John has had to use.
The public is invited to participate in this event. Please contact Layne Winter at (206) 228-4081 to schedule an appointment at the donation bus.
