Home burglary: At about 12:59 a.m. near the 100 block of SW 332nd Street, a woman woke up to find her back sliding glass door was open. As she was looking at the back door, she heard someone run out the front door. Nothing seemed to be missing and no suspect information was gathered.
Explosion investigation: At about 2:01 p.m. near the 1900 block of S. 375th Street, officers and South King Fire members responded to reports of a possible explosion. An officer of the police department’s bomb unit also responded to the scene due to the nature of the call. It was later determined the explosion was caused by a large firework that appeared to blow up next to the residence. The occupant of the house declined to cooperate with fire personnel or police.
Handgun pointed: At about 6:51 p.m. near the 2200 block of S. 314th Street, the victims were having a normal discussion with a male known to them. They said during the discussion, the man pulled a black handgun out of the vehicle, pointed it at them, and threatened them. All of the victims refused to provide statements or assist further in the investigation.
Firearm stolen: At about 8:53 p.m. near the 31800 block of Pacific Highway South, a victim stated that she left her vehicle unlocked while going inside the gas station. The victim returned to her vehicle and discovered her backpack, which contained her firearm inside, was missing.
July 22
Suicidal subject: At about 5:16 a.m. near the 34800 block of Pacific Highway South, police responded to multiple 911 calls about a woman walking into traffic. Police contacted the woman who was sobbing and walking in the middle lane of Highway 18 near Pacific Highway South. The woman repeatedly said she was attempting to end her own life. Police persuaded her to get into the police vehicle and transported her to a safer location near the Super Walmart. When Tri-Med arrived, the woman refused to get on the gurney. Police said due to House Bill 1310, they did not use force on the suicidal subject to get her into treatment, even though she was a hazard to herself and others. The woman ended up walking away from the scene. (Editor’s note: House Bill 1310 went into effect on July 25).
Home invasion: At about 5:35 p.m. near the 1900 block of SW Campus Drive, an unknown woman with a handgun opened the back sliding glass door, entered the apartment, and pointed the gun at the victim while demanding his car keys. The victim, who is a trained mental health professional, used his de-escalation techniques to talk the woman down. After a few minutes, the woman left out the back door and remains at large.
July 23
Employee steals thousands: At about 4:35 p.m. near the 33510 block of 21st Avenue SW, an employee stole more than $3,000 from AutoZone through fraudulent warranty returns.
Man exposes self: At about 6:24 p.m. near the 1095 block of S. 324th Street, an unknown man exposed his genitals to the victim while she was walking on the Celebration Park trail.
July 24
Nightclub assault: At about 2:24 a.m. near the 2012 block of S. 320th Street, a woman reported she was assaulted at a nightclub by an unknown woman. After the parties were separated, security for the nightclub then pulled the reporting party to the ground and she was held down by the guard, who put a knee on her neck. The woman transported herself to the hospital for treatment.
July 25
Threats with shotgun: At about 10:18 a.m. near the 2400 block of S. 273rd Place, a male suspect threatened a woman with a shotgun. The man was also in possession of a stolen vehicle, trailer and motorcycle. The man was taken into custody and booked into jail due to the domestic relationship between himself and the victim.
Hate crime: At about 11:29 a.m. near the 31200 block of 1st Avenue South, the victim was approached by a woman while she sat in her car after a road rage incident. The woman used racial slurs and verbally attacked the victim for her race. The woman also threw rocks at her car, hitting the victim and the vehicle. No suspect or suspect vehicle information were gathered at the time of the report.
July 26
Sex offense: At about 2:39 a.m. near the 3000 block of 13th Avenue SW, officers responded to reports of a sex offense that involved a child. The victim was referred to the hospital and statements were taken. Shortly after the call, officers responded to an address and found a man covered in blood. The vehicle drove off from the scene and upon checking its license plate, it had the same address as the sex offense case. Officers conducted a welfare check and had one man detained. St. Francis Hospital staff called police to report a gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital. It was later determined the gunshot victim was involved with the sex offense.
July 27
Kittens saved: At about 12:42 p.m. near the 1818 block of S. 286th Lane, a man discovered two kittens in his truck. The man said the truck was inoperable and suspected that a pregnant cat gave birth to the kittens. An officer arrived on scene and safely transported the two kittens to the Humane Society.
July 28
Accidental discharge: At about 9:36 a.m. near the 32100 block of 20th Lane SW, a man in his mid-20s suffered an accidental gunshot wound to his midsection after the firearm he was carrying in his waistband discharged. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center by medics for treatment.
