You might see them putting new decals on recycling dumpsters, handing out reusable utensils at a local festival or helping unload items at community recycling events.
The Waste Management (WM) team of highly trained interns i back on the beat, moving the needle on waste reduction and recycling in Federal Way.
The WM Recycle Corps interns have recently completed an extensive recycling boot camp and are now ready to assist the community. Much of their summer will focus on helping property managers and residents improve recycling programs at apartment and condominium communities.
WM interns will also be tagging recycling carts for residential customers who need reminders about what’s acceptable in Federal way’s curbside recycling program. Research shows that messaging residents just before they pt items in carts can greatly improve sorting accuracy, according to WM.
Initiated by WM in 2010, the WM Recycle Corps is an award-winning program in the Puget Sound. The annual cohort internship for college students is the only one of its kind in the recycling industry across North America.
