An estimated 500 residents turned out Saturday night to cheer the lighting of Town Square Park’s first ever holiday tree.

With a festive break in the weather, parents and children enjoyed the downtown holiday event, which featured an appearance by Santa Claus, who rode in on a vintage fire truck provided by South King Fire, while Mrs. Claus offered hot chocolate and cookies.

The evening also featured traditional festive songs with performances by The Harmony Kings, Jet Cities Chorus and the talented students from the Brigadoon Elementary Honor Choir.

As dark descended on the downtown, Mayor Jim Ferrell and the City Council threw the switch, lighting up the 21-foot tall tree, to the cheers of the assembled crowd.
