Federal Way resident killed in DUI crash along I-90

58-year-old Lynnwood man struck parked vehicle, killing both occupants, Washington State Patrol says.

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — Two people, including one from Federal Way, were killed by an intoxicated driver while sitting in their parked car in a crash along I-90 on Monday morning.

According to Washington State Patrol, 58-year-old David McFarland, of Lynnwood, was traveling eastbound on I-90 near exit 70 in a 2004 Chevy Silverado when he crashed into a disabled car parked along the right shoulder of the freeway on June 29.

McFarland struck the parked car, a 2001 Chevy Cavalier, from behind, killing both people inside. WSP stated McFarland was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. He was taken into custody for driving under the influence and two counts of vehicular homicide.

The occupants of the parked car, a 39-year-old driver from Grandview and a 43-year-old passenger from Federal Way, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither of the individuals in the parked car were wearing seat belts.

The identifies of the deceased have not yet been released pending next-of-kin notification.
