The King County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect who stole athletic equipment from Sequoyah Middle School in unincorporated King County near Federal Way and Auburn.

The “heartless heist” happened around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, when the suspect drove his truck onto school property and parked behind a portable building, according to a post on the King County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

“He was likely hiding from the custodian, who left around 9:00pm. and locked the school gate behind him,” according to the post.

The suspect “drove out of his hiding spot” and backed up to a storage shed at 11 p.m. He used bolt cutters to cut the locks on three storage sheds and stole sports equipment from the shed, according to the sheriff’s office. He then cut the lock on the school gate to exit the property.

King County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ryan Abbott told the Mirror they are awaiting more information from Federal Way Public Schools regarding what items were stolen and how much they are valued at.

“We know the video quality isn’t great, but perhaps someone recognizes this guy or maybe that safety jacket,” stated the King County Sheriff’s Office, who also posted frames of the video.

The suspect was driving a light colored, possibly silver, four-door, 2008-2013 Chevy Silverado. The truck appears to have a Z-71 decal on the rear panel. There’s a toolbox in the front of the truck bed and the rims appear to be six-spoke, stock rims.
