Federal Way man dies after being shot in face on SR-509

The man was killed during a drive-by shooting on the freeway.

A Federal Way driver who was shot in the face during a drive-by shooting on Sunday evening while driving along State Route 509 has died.

The victim was identified as 20-year-old James A. Richardson.

Richardson was in a one-car collision after being shot, and died from his injuries after being transported to Harborview Medical Center, according to a press release from Washington State Patrol.

The Federal Way man’s vehicle was traveling southbound on SR-509 near Cloverdale when an individual in an unknown vehicle fired and struck the driver, causing the vehicle to strike the barrier that divides the north and southbound lanes, the press release reads in part.

The passenger of the vehicle was unable to tell officers what the suspect vehicle looked like or what direction the shots came from.

WSP is currently investigating and analyzing evidence “to bring the suspect in this horrible crime to justice,” according to the press release.
